Yesterday (Sunday 12/2/07) my wife and I went to a YMCA exercise room, but not to lift weights. Along with about 80 others, we lifted prayer and praise to God as one of ten satellite campuses of Community Bible Church, San Antonio, TX, where Robert Emmitt is founding and lead pastor.
We visited their New Braunfels campuse, a 30-40 minute drive to the northeast, where Jay Moeller is campus pastor, along with his wife Kelly. Both are local to the area (Jay is fifth generation locally), and both have been on staff at Community Bible.
The growth of this campus, launched 7 months ago, is exciting, as is the way their hard-working team transforms this classy facility for worship (this YMCA bought a recently constructed upscale health club). They're a warm and welcoming church, with a great sense of community even as they set up and tear down.
I was most encouraged to see the willingness of the Y to emphasize the C in their name by welcoming a Christian church in many ways beyond a pure renter relationship. Its a great arrangement.
