What a weekend! Risen King Church in Redding California held a Church Planting Missions Weekend. The entire weekend was dedicated to informing and motivating the members of Risen King to get more involved in starting new churches. They had coffee meetings, luncheons, a dinner for the church leaders and dedicated the worship service to church planting. Bill Randall, the senior pastor of Risen King, encouraged each person to see himself as a potential pastor of a new church start or as a new member of starting a new church. The church had built a prayer wall where literally hundreds signed and tacked their commitment cards to support church planting.
Church Planting is not a new concept for Risen King. This church has started several churches over the last 5 years. A year ago, Risen King was averaging about 1000 when they decided to hive off 300 members to begin a new church called The Stirring in a neighboring community. A year later, The Stirring is averaging over 750. Risen King has also shown both numerical and financial growth during the same time.
As Risen King looks to the end of 2009 and their involvement in Leadership Network’s Church Planting Leadership Community, they plan to have launched eight church plants: four local faith communities, one overseas church plant, and three local or regional plants. As these new churches plant churches, and as Risen King continues to start new churches, they plan to begin a network of multiplying churches.
