Several people have asked Leadership Network about churches’ response to the recent earthquake in Haiti. Here are a couple things that we are aware of:
WORLD VISION CONFERENCE CALL
Tomorrow, Friday 1/15 at 11:00 am Pacific, you can join Max Lucado, Bill Hybels and Rich Stearns of World Vision on a conference call to hear first hand accounts and the most up-to-date information about the devastating earthquake in Haiti and what World Vision and churches around the country are doing to respond. Click here for the details: http://media.leadnet.org/urgent_haiti_conference_call.pdf
You can also visit www.worldvisionchurches.org for more information.
MISSION OF HOPE
Mission of Hope works very closely with both the Haitian and U.S. government and they are very efficient with use of donations. We have 1.5 million meals in the warehouse being distributed immediately. The most desperate needs are for medical supplies, food, water and fuel.
For updates from the ground you can go to http://disasterrelief.mohhaiti.org/.
To donate, go to www.mohhaiti.org. On the home page there is a disaster update with a tab that reads >>YOUR GIVING CAN HELP HAITI NOW! CLICK HERE!<<.
---------------------------------------------------
If your church is responding in a direct way to help the people in Haiti, please feel free to post a comment.
After reading the Livesay Haiti blog saying bluntly "Thanks for thinking of us, but if you don't speak Creole and know how to clean wounds please don't come. We don't have the ability to house and feed you." we decided the best effort was to work through agencies already there. As Compassion International sponsors ourselves, it was an easy choice to send money to an agency that has already been working with hundreds of Haitian children...and will be a main source of support for who knows how many that just became orphaned.
