What's the Radical Future for Small Group Ministry? That's the question 8 church teams recently dug into at Leadership Network's Innovation Lab for Groups Ministries. Ranging in church sizes from 1,500 to 23,000, each church sent 3 Groups Ministry team members to look at what's working, what's not and the top trends churches need to be paying attention to in order to provide a Groups Ministry that works not only in today's culture, but will carry them into the next century. The teams analyzed their current structure, vision and process and spent some time dreaming big about what God could accomplish through their groups. The teams wrestled with several questions during their time together such as 'what do we measure and why?', 'what defines the win in our small groups?' and 'how do we quickly assimilate new attenders into our group structure?' Each church team spent concentrated time forming a specific battle plan of attack, forming strategies that would carry their group ministry into the next decade.
Mac Lake, Leadership Development Pastor at Seacoast Church described the specific questions he and his team are wrestling with, given their current participation rate of 45%:
Does your team have some of these same questions? You'll want to stay tuned for our upcoming learning paper 'Breaking the 50% participation barrier in Small Groups' and additional learnings from our Innovation Lab that we'll post here on our Learnings blog.
Our RadicalFuture Innovation Labs focus on existing ministry areas, asking the question 'what are the innovations we need to be paying attention to in this ministry area?' We're currently forming an Innovation Lab focusing on Family Ministry that will kick off September 2010. For information, email sherry.surratt@leadnet.org or click here.
